Ingleside Shore Cleanup and Restoration

Ingleside Shore is a beautiful neighborhood near Fox Lake. We are a residential area that is close to fishing and other recreational spots as well to museums (including an auto museum that is far more interesting than being in traffic) and other cultural spots.  

We have a great mixture of old homes and newly built construction. While we are near some hot housing markets, affordable and lovely homes are still available in our Ingleside Shore community.  

Ingleside Shore is along the Chain O’Lakes, also known as “The Chain.” This waterway system includes 15 lakes connected by the Fox River and manufactured channels. It includes more than 7,100 acres of lake water, 488 miles of shoreline, and 45 miles of river. By area, The Chain is the busiest inland recreational waterway in the United States. 

Geologists estimate that the Wisconsin Glacier melted about 100,000 years ago; that’s what we need to thank for the formation of The Chain. European explorers met indigenous people from several nations, including the Miami, Mascouten, and Potowatomi. French trappers and traders established communities in the 17th century. In the 19th century, more people arrived, including the Dunnhill family and Converse Marble. The Dunhills and Marble hand dug a channel between the Piskatee Lake and Nippersink Lake, making travel easier and supplying fresh water along the eastern shore 

The channel has – largely by design – become wider and deeper since then. It is now a popular resort area for boaters, and it is a destination for many Chicago residents who escape the heat during the summer.
