The village of Hampshire is in the northwest corner of Kane County. It was originally established as a rest stop along the Chicago-Galena stagecoach line. Back in the late 1800's, Hampshire was the second largest milk producing and delivery station in the state. Another interesting fact is that during the second world war, Hampshire was the home of a prisoner of war camp, housing over 250 Germany soldiers and having them work at a local canning company. 

Hampshire has a great educational system, with an elementary, middle, and high school. The high school mascot is a cat-like creature named a Whip-Pur, which is named after the team colors of white and purple. a couple of notable graduates from the high school are Charles Backus, and Illinois state representative and Jake Goebbert, first basemen who played for the San Diego Padres. 

Every fall, thousands of people come out to the Goebbert farm to buy their Halloween pumpkins and to enjoy a great fall adventure.

Although the village is over 150 years old, they are focusing on the future. The economic development group is working with local and regional companies to bring in companies that will help the overall growth of the area for years to come. 

Due to the roads and train tracks that pass through the village, it can take a long period of time to traverse the entire 9.5 square miles. A recent referendum passed to construct a second fire station to allow the dedicated firefighters more time to reduce the overall damage due to fire and smoke. The same relates to water damage, responding fast to a water loss will minimize the overall damage and decrease the overall time to recover.
