Edgewood is located on the southern edge of Effingham County. The village's southern border follows the Clay County, Illinois line. Edge is a small town of about 600 population. Edgewood is a very old town and was founded in the 1850's when the railroad was extended to that point. The village was named from its location near the edge of a forest. A United States post office has been in operation at Edgewood since 1858!
