Brookfield, IL is a village that is located 13 miles west of downtown Chicago, IL. This is a great destination for residents to commute to Downtown Chicago via the Metra train. There are three separate stops for the village of Brookfield.
Brookfield is most known for the Brookfield Zoo, also known as the Chicago Zoological Park. The land was donated to the Cook County Forest Preserve District by Edith Rockefeller McCormick in 1919 for development as a zoological garden. The zoo opened for business on July 1, 1934, and quickly gained international recognition for using moats and ditches to separate animals from visitors and from other animals. The zoo is home to about 450 species of animals. The Brookfield Zoo also contains a majestic fountain named after Theodore Roosevelt.
