Braidwood is located 53 miles southwest of Chicago, giving this town a beautiful suburban rural mix feeling. The Rt 66 Scenic Bypass has a few must see stops if traveling through. Polk a Dot is a 1950's themed diner. Besides serving great burgers, fries and shakes you can see or even have your photo taken with many life sized statues at this diner. Across the street you will find "Braidwood Zoo" which has a cage filled with animals such as a giraffe, polar bear, cow which were made by a local artist from the area. Also located in Braidwood is The Sun Motel formerly known as The Braidwood Inn which was featured in the movie Planes, Trains, and Automobiles staring John Candy and Steve Martin. Braidwood is a close knit town and each summer since 1981 The Lion's Club Summerfest happens in the city park. The town comes together to celebrate summer with a carnival, games, live entertainment, a flea market, parade, fireworks and much more.
