The history of Millen is quite fascinating, with its origins dating back to the 1830’s. The town was originally called “79” or “Old 79” due to its approximate distance is miles from Savannah. In the 1850’s, Millen is where the Georgia Railroad and Central of Georgia Railroad intersected & this played a vital part in the town’s development and transportation. In 1881, the city of Millen was incorporated and became the county seat for Jenkins County as well as the only incorporated municipality in Jenkins County. It is located on the East side of the Ogeechee River. Fast forward to today, Millen’s economy is mostly agriculture, agribusiness & forestry.
