South Gate Ridge is a residential community located in Sarasota County, Florida, USA. It is situated just south of the city of Sarasota and is bounded by Bee Ridge Road to the north, Beneva Road to the west, and Proctor Road to the south.
The history of South Gate Ridge dates back to the 1950s when a group of investors led by Arthur Vining Davis, the chairman of Alcoa Aluminum, purchased a large tract of land in the area. The land had previously been used for farming, and the investors saw an opportunity to develop a new suburban community to meet the growing demand for housing in the Sarasota area.
The South Gate Ridge development was designed to offer residents a high quality of life with a mix of single-family homes and apartments, along with parks, playgrounds, and other amenities. The community was marketed to young families and retirees looking for a peaceful and convenient place to live.
Over the years, South Gate Ridge has grown and evolved, with new homes and businesses being built in the area.
