Much of the land of Poyner, Florida was part of a land grant given to a family by King Phillip II of Spain. The settlers in this area were given land to grow crops and raise animals. In the early 1800s, huge numbers of settlers moved in. The town was founded in 1892 by William Poyner and became incorporated in 1902. It has seen a lot of growth through the years, which led to its incorporation.
