Surprisingly pronounced as "Loots" Lutz is a town just outside of Tampa that began with the construction of a small train depot. The name Lutz comes from W.P. Lutz who was credited with bringing the railroad to the town. According to the 2020 census, Lutz has a population of 23,707 people. In 2003, after a strain of Cleistocactus sprouted up unexpectedly in the area, the town earned the nickname "Cactus Hat." Strangely enough, cacti can still be seen around the town today.
The schools in Lutz are served by Hillsborough & Pasco County Public School Systems. Since Lutz is bordered by the city of Tampa, an influx of people started moving to Lutz to have the appeal of the city while still having access to affordable housing. Downtown Tampa is 14 miles to the south. Because of the increased population, there is also an increase in the number of residents and businesses who may be in need of mitigation services.
