La Gorce Island, Florida, is an island located within the city of Miami Beach. It was built using dredged sand in 1924 by millionaire and land developer Carl G. Fisher. The island is named after Fisher's close friend, John Oliver La Gorce, a renowned explorer, author, and president of the National Geographic Society. In 1936 the island was sold, and new roads and residential lots were created. It is now home to many celebrities. Its proximity by bridge to La Gorce and the Miami International Airport makes this exclusive island a convenient, luxurious tropical paradise. 

The island's population is 2994. Many people have lived in this area for 10,000 years. First, the Tequesta Indians lived in the area, then the Spanish arrived.
