Cal Expo has a long and rich history in Sacramento County area. Also known as California Exposition and State Fair, it is an independent state agency. One of the notable events that lead to the opening of Cal Expo was the last State Fair held at the old fairgrounds. Since 1967, the California State Fair was dedicated by the then-Governor Ronald Reagan at the base of the American River levee. The speech elaborated that Cal Expo would represent “the best of the past, in which the State Fair would preserve a slice of Americana; and it would be a window into the future.” Since Cal Expo has been open, it has created many memories for many residents who visited the city. The city of Cal Expo has hosted a variety of events ranging from the Sacramento Jazz Jubilee, the Sacramento County Fair, State Fair Gala that supports scholarships International Sportsman Expo Western States Horse Expo, recreational vehicles, auto and special collectible trade shows, trade and business events, and other events that continues to serve the community. Cal Expo is the home to one of two operating permanent monorail system in California. The monorail is open to the locals of Cal Expo during the annual State Fair to oversee the city.
