When Edgecomb has Fire Damage or Water Damage

A little over a century ago, the recently logged land of Edgecomb was full of rejected timber and jagged tree stumps of all sizes. Most settlers used smaller stumps as animal shelters or storage places. A Swedish woodworker named Johan Westerlund hollowed out a giant stump to use as a temporary home for his family.

Years later, the stump home, as people came to call it and others like it, was used as a workshop and retreat for Johan. Despite plans to turn the stump home into an exhibit for a local park, vermin had other ideas and destroyed the structure while it was in storage. Photographer Darius Kinsey made the Stump Home a famous image of the Pacific Northwest.

Eliminating the Long-Lasting Effects of Fire Damage

The effects of an indoor fire can prove bothersome for a very long time. SERVPRO IICRC-Certified technicians use different machines to resolve the problem:

  • Air scrubbers to remove currently suspended particles,
  • Thermal fogging that mimics the fire’s heat to force chemical binders into the same spaces to inhibit future disintegrations,
  • Cleaning of the HVAC unit, where particles often hide, and
  • Carpet cleaning to prevent the slow release of soot particles into the air.
