Hunter, UT is one of the four communities that combined to form West Valley City in 1980. This suburb of Salt Lake City has a population of 140,230. Hunter was formally part of the census-designated place called Granger-Hunter.
History of Hunter
Homesteaders and settlers first came to the Hunter, Utah area in the 1870s. Rasmus Nielson, August Larsen and Edward Rushton started the settlement that would become Hunter Precinct in 1876. The community was named in honor of Bishop Edward Hunter. Hunter merged with Granger, Chesterfield and Redwood to become West Valley City in 1980.

Fans of minor league hockey can watch the Utah Grizzlies play at the Maverik center, which was also the site of all of the ice hockey events during the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics. The USANA Amphitheater features 13,000 - 20,000 lawn seats and 7,000 reserve seats for a variety of popular musical acts, such as Matchbox Twenty and Foreigner.
