History of South Cleveland

The Cleveland Metropolitan area is believed to have been founded in 1540 by Hernando de Soto. History wise, you will learn that Gen. William Sherman led Union troops through this area during his famous march to the sea – a march that ended at Savannah, Georgia. South Cleveland is also home to the famous Black Fox Inn, where Ulysses S. Grant stayed after being married there by his best friend and then later went on to Baltimore during the Civil War.
