Algood is a small town with a big heart, nestled at the base of Algood Mountain in Putnam County, Tennessee. The town made its mark as an important stopover for rail travel from Nashville to Knoxville in the 1800s, but was formally established in 1911. At only 4 square miles, Algood helps to make up the Cookeville Micropolitan Area.

Algood is a short distance to many of middle Tennessee’s gorgeous natural areas, notably Center Hill and Dale Hollow lakes and three state parks – Edgar Evans, Burgess Falls, and Fall Creek Falls. It’s a waterfall enthusiasts dream! Algood is also home to the Upper Cumberland Quilt Festival, which has been a staple of the community since 1988. The festival grows each year and now has over 600 quilts on display. Not only does this attract quilt makers and admirers, but those interested in local architecture and the history of the area.

Algood’s geographic placement, however, does allow for significant rainfall to accumulate throughout the year and cause water damage issues for homeowners and business owners alike. Due to Algood’s proximity to major river systems, floods are a concern of the area year-round. A humid climate provides the perfect environment for mold to thrive. The area has seen its share of significant storms, most notably the tornado outbreak of 2020.
