History of Turbotville
Turbotville was established as a town in 1849 after German and Swiss settlers moved west from New York State, but it did not become economically successful until the arrival of the railroad in 1859. It was originally named "General George Palmer" for a Revolutionary War hero. The town was later renamed Turbotville in honor of John D'Lee Turbot who was one of the first settlers there when it became a town. Turbotville is still a small community with approximately 1,200 residents today.
