History of Sunbury
Sunbury, Pennsylvania was settled in 1769 and became a town in 1810. The first settlers were mainly Quakers who were escaping religious persecution in Europe, though later waves of immigrants included Irish, Welsh, and Scottish peoples. Before European settlers made their way here, Native American tribes settled in the area because of its proximity to the Susquehanna River.
