History of Selinsgrave
In 1797, Collingswood built a log cabin on land he owned in the town of Selinsgrove. By 1802 the first settlers were making their home in what is now Selinsgrove. The first settlers were mostly Quakers from the Philadelphia region who had come looking for cheap land and religious freedom. These settlers helped build Selinsgrove into one of Franklin County's largest towns at the time by establishing mills, farms and more. By 1803, the town had been incorporated as Selinsgrove Township and twenty years later, it was promoted to Borough status by an act of the legislature.
