Plains Cleanup and Restoration

Sometimes called The Keystone of the Wyoming Valley, Plains was first settled in northeastern Pennsylvania in 1762. Originally nicknamed Jacob’s Plains after the Wanami Delaware Native American tribe leader, Plains was home to around 200 settlers from the Susquehanna Company. Within a few decades, Plains had grown in size and importance. The discovery of anthracite coal led to canals and railroads being constructed to aid the mining and coal transportation efforts. With the Susquehanna River to the east and various nature parks located in the area, Plains is a natural beauty.
