The name Nisbet comes from John Nisbet, an early settler of Williamsport who applied for a tract of land. It's known for its natural environment and the historical sites in the area. Nisbet was once a thriving community of coal miners and their families, whose livelihoods were tied to the coal mines that operated on the outskirts of town. Today, it is difficult to get around because most of the roads here are unpaved and very narrow. Residents rely on cars or ATVs to get around town as they face many obstacles such as potholes and other obstructions along the winding back roads.
