About Montgomery, PA
Montgomery is a borough in Lycoming County. Our community is located where the Susquehanna and Little Susquehanna rivers come together. We are located about 35 miles north of Altoona and about 45 miles from State College, PA on Route 322. The borough is known for its scenery and the numerous local parks. The town’s history dates back to the 1890’s when it was first settled by Scottish immigrants.
The History of Naming Montgomery, PA
If you're a local, you know Montgomery was previously known as Black Hole for the creek that flows through it and the post office established in 1836 that held the same name. It then went by Clinton Mills at one point, also nicknamed after a post office, and then the name transformed to Montgomery, after the Montgomery station, which was the same post office, just under a new name. Luckily, Montgomery stuck!
