In 1741, thirty-five residents, mostly Irish and German, petitioned the Court of Quarter Sessions to lay out the township which was granted and the land was surveyed by John Chapman. The town name was stolen from a town in Boston. In 1841, the original church that was built in 1725 before most of the community residents arrived was replaced, and the new building commonly called the 'Irish Meeting House', still stands today. Another historical site in Bedminister is The Stover-Myers Mill. The mill was built in 1800 and was in operation until 1955. Its primary use was to grind flour and feed for livestock.
