Scio is a city in Linn County, Oregon. Scio was established on October 3, 1860, and was named by one of the original residents, William McKinney. He and Henry L. Turner, set up a flour mill at the new town. Turner suggested McKinney come up with a name for the place, so McKinney used the name of his former home, Scio, Ohio.
A tour of Scio quickly reveals why this little burg is called the “Covered Bridge Capital of the West." Five of the remaining historic, scenic structures (and one new one) span the creeks and rivers surrounding town on this quiet country back roads southeast of Salem. Explore Scio’s railroad history at the Scio Historical Depot Museum and herd your flock to watch the nation’s oldest sheepdog trials at the annual Lamb & Wool Fair.
