Many cities in Oregon have names from the tribes that lived there, or a body of water that it was named after. Myrtle Point got its name from the trees that grow so prolific up and down the Coquille River. So, that is how Myrtle point received its name, from the Myrtle Tree. Myrtle Point is another one of Oregon's smaller communities, located along the Coquille River and in the Coquille Valley. The location of this city gives the area very moderate temperatures and excellent hunting and fishing. The area does not offer a lot of jobs due to its small size, but does have an above average school system. Myrtle Point High School is located near the center of town and they are known as the Bobcats. The local newspaper is the Myrtle Point Herald. Small town life wouldn't be complete without a town wide garage sale, yes Myrtle Point actually has a garage sale the whole town can participate in. Myrtle Point also has some beautiful homes to see, Victorian style homes line the street of this tiny town and adds a touch of elegance to this gem of a city.
