Haskell, Oklahoma was established by Charles N. Haskell along the Midland Valley Railroad in 1904. With a population of more than sixteen hundred residents and ever growing, this Muskogee County town is served by multiple highways nearby including US Route 64 and US Route 62. Haskell occupies a privately owned airport known as the Haskell Airport, but the nearest commercial airport is about 35 miles away to Tulsa International Airport.
This community, in its early days, flourished with cotton production and oil exploration along with gasoline that were discovered in 1910. The railroad nearby enabled farmers to ship their goods to the northern and eastern markets. Known as the “Queen City of the Arkansas Valley”, Haskell is home to Haskell Lake, which is known for good fishing along with the nearby Arkansas River just east of town. Frontier Day celebrations takes place in the Haskell City Park and brings in locals and visitors alike every year.
