Broadway Slavik Village was originally part of Newburgh Township and is one of the earliest settlements in Cuyahoga County. Settlers were attracted to the fresh water and power provided by Mill Creek. In the 1800’s Czech and Polish immigrants arrived and created a neighborhood rich in Eastern European history. Though the demographics have changed over the years, the largest part of Broadway is still named Slavik Village for those communities.

In 2006 the Slavik Village Development opened the Morgana Run Trail. It runs on the former Wheeling and Lake Erie Railway corridor and connects to the Ohio and Erie Canal Towpath. Trail users can view Mill Creek Falls, Cuyahoga County’s largest waterfall.

With the fast-flowing Mill Creek running through the area, water damage can be a real concern. Businesses and residential homes in the area can be affected by rain, storms and flooding. Due to the large industrial areas, fire damage can also be a concern. In the first half of the 19th Century, commercial development occurred primarily along Broadway.
