Bellevue, Ohio, was founded in 1815 by a small group of settlers from Genesee County, N.Y., and has been a railroad town since the Nickel Plate Road laid tracks through it in the 19th century. Bellevue resident Henry Morrison Flagler partnered with John D. Rockefeller to start Standard Oil in 1863. His former Bellevue property on Southwest Street is the current location of the Mad River & NKP Railroad Museum.
