The first buyers moved into the new LeisureTowne retirement community in the early 1970's. Many didn't have close neighbors or other houses on their unpaved street. There were no sidewalks or streetlights. There was no mail delivery to individual homes. The early residents called themselves "The Pioneers." They gathered every Friday night at Settlers Hall to dance to records. Gradually the streets were paved, sidewalks laid, streetlights installed and new sections of the town were added. Now, more than five decades later, LeisureTowne is a beautiful place to live, work, and play. LeisureTowne is home to more than 3,500 residents. There are a lot of amenities to help keep residents active. There are three spacious social halls and members of the community can take advantage of a catering kitchen, ballrooms with stages, and a library. There is a fitness center as well as places to play billiards. Outdoor amenities include a pool, tennis courts and bocce. Residents can picnic or barbecue with friends at the gazebo or relax by the scenic lakes. Everyone looks forward to the Annual Art Show.
