Herbertsville is a small community located at the Jersey Shore. Our community is small but we make up for that in our community spirit. There are only a few roads main roads here, Herbertsville Road and Lanes Mill Road. The Manasquan River forms on our eastern border and Sawmill Creek forms the southern edge. There is a path called Sawmill Bike Path that runs along the creek and offers a trail that has a nice crushed rock path that is a few miles long.
Settlers arrived in our area in the late 1800s and industries began to take over the area for lumber, pinewood, cranberry and poultry. In the 1950s, we became known as a resort and summer vacation destination. Havens Farm dates back to the early 1800s. It became an inn in the late 1840s. In 1993 it was donated to our local historical society and they have turned it into a museum. The society meetings are open to the public and meets at 7:30 pm the second Tuesday of September, November, January, March, and June at the Herbertsville Fire House. Also, the Fire Company is always looking for volunteers to join and help The Ladies' Auxiliary.
Our kids spend many warm days at Herbertsville Park and Herbertsville Playground on Nebraska Avenue. The park has a softball field, basketball courts, two playgrounds, wand a path to walk, jog or run along with benches and has a parking area. When our kids are not playing at the park, they spend their days at Herbertsville Elementary School on Lanes Mill Road for students K-5. We also have a great adult community for those 55+ at Winding River Village.
Our reservoir on Herbertsville Road is 120 acres and store one billion gallons of water and displays aesthetically pleasing theme gardens with indigenous plantings along with two fishing stations and four gazebos
Hurricane or “Superstorm Sandy” arrived on October 29, 2012 and the community knew it was going to be the worst storm of their lives. The storm waters flooded their cellars and rotted their floors down to the floorboards. SERVPRO stared reserving calls for help immediately following the storm’s passing. The water damage came in quickly and our crews worked 24/7 drying out and restoring people’s homes and businesses.
