The Borough of Bay Head could be described as a quaint, seaside town, reminiscent of a bygone era with Victorian. Located at the mouth of the Barnegat Bay and on the Jersey Shore’s barrier island, it is less than one square mile, with approximately 1,000 year round residents. There is nothing not to love about Bay Head with its pristine beaches, a popular cheese shop, restaurants, a fabulous bakery and gift shops. Burke’s Market specializes in prepared foods, Italian Specialties, coffee, espresso, & homemade gelato. The Grenville Hotel and Restaurant dates back 1890 on Main Street. During the warmer months a visit to our local farmers market is a must to get the best pick of the seasons.

There is a little over 1.3 miles beach so you have plenty of room to build sand castles and will not feel crowded. Walking along the beach here is so relaxing and a great spot to collect seashells and sea glass. Twilight Lake is a saltwater lake overlooks Bay Heads Town Center and is ideal for bird watching and casual evening walks or bicycle rides. If you like fishing, get your pole and try to reel in catfish, white perch summer flounder, bluefish, and striped bass. We have one elementary school for kindergarteners through fifth grade. Right around the corner from the school is the Bay Head Library. Perfect to stop in to borrow a book to take to the beach to read by the water while watching the sunrise. 

At the shore, there are no shortages of thunderstorms, snow storms, tropical storms and the occasional hurricane. In 2012, Hurricane or “Superstorm Sandy”, ravaged surrounding towns, but Bay Head fared better because of a sea wall, a 16-foot-high engineered underground rock wall in 1962. Homes and businesses still suffered water damage but nothing compared to its surrounding seaside communities.
