Harvest Festival Brings This Community Together and is a Reminder of Their Rural History
The community of Barrington, traces it's history back more than 300 years. Early on the land was used primarily for farming. . Early in New Jersey’s history, counties were created which were comprised of townships and a few cities. During the first two hundred years the area remained agricultural, but farming operations were modified in the 1800s. In the 1890's the railroad, and real estate development, led to the Village of Barrington. By 1917, this changed the area greatly , and resulted, in the borough. Cars and busses replaced the railroad and trolleys in the 1920s. The impact of science and technology transformed the area from being a residential-rural community to a modern suburb. Today a highlight for residents and visitors is the Barrington Harvest Festival. It takes place along historic Clements Bridge Road. The popular festival features over 100 craft, and food vendors. There is always a lot of excitement about the live entertainment as well as the activities for kids and teens. There is a stage for local theater and dance companies. The festival also features a classic car show, petting zoo, and pony rides.
