Oakboro was officially made a town in 1913 but it was a passing town that had no businesses, homes, or establishment. In 1915, the town was officially named Oakboro, NC. Oakboro was originally a 320-acre tract only one mile wide! Oakboro was the center of the rural areas surrounding it, as it has a conjunction of five roads directly in the center. These country lanes were originally used to bring many different products and services to be traded for other necessities. This town was similar to an outpost/trade post for several years, until the Oakboro Cotton Mill was built in 1923. This was the beginning of bringing jobs not only to Oakboro but also to Stanly County. The Cotton Mill is still up and running but is under different ownership and was renamed. Stanly County locals still consider Oakboro to be one of the few remaining small towns, as Charlotte, NC is right around the corner. Edmond and Nelson were very helpful in fogging out HVAC system, the process only took 15 minutes. Edmond was very knowledgeable about this trade and offered good advice.
