Graves; who opened the Zion Seminary, a boarding school for men and women that allowed women and men to come from across the state to study courses in law, medicine and religion and was in operation until it burned in 1890.  Lumber also help to grow the town, the lumber companies would cut the virgin lumber across the area and towns started springing up along the railroad. Despite the small size, most Mississippians are familiar with Seminary due to the Okatoma Creek where gentle rapids and a few small falls draw them to the water. After a fun day in the water go curb your appetite at the Shady Acres Village, home to the southern-style cooking and BBQ then after you eat stroll through the old-timey general store.  Small-town charm is another hallmark of Seminary.
