Nestled amidst the gentle hills of Mississippi, this Lawrence County town is a lovely place to be. Steeped in history, this town has foundations where stories of heritage unfold. The Lawrence County Civic Center and Museum was built in 1924 in the historic district, which has now had upkeep renovations and hosts the annual Gala. Another historic attraction is the Longino House, which gives a glimpse into the early twentieth century of Mississippi. It is also on the National Register of Historic Places, and a perfect little place where the community gathers for events throughout the year.

This little town is probably most popularly known by the Atwood Music Festival held at the Atwood Water Park, which has boat entrances to the Pearl River. The festival is held every Memorial Day weekend and hosted by the Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce. It is one of the longest consecutively running music festivals in the state of Mississippi since 1974 and has had many famous acts, like Muscadine Bloodline and Travis Tritt. Along the park is a 1.5 mile paved and lit walking track, tennis courts and playgrounds.

Another riverside park is Cooper’s Ferry Park, which was the original site where the town first began in 1812. Local families love to come for nature trails, and hang out near the water wheel ponds or picinic in the gazebo, as the park is conveniently located downtown. You’ll also find many family sporting events at the Lawrence County Sportsplex, as it has soccer fields, softball fields, and a football field. The town takes pride in connecting through sports and recreational activities.
