The Town of Liberty
The Town of Liberty is in Amite County just off Mississippi Highway 24. Incorporated in 1809, this historic town has eleven sites listed in the Nation Register of Historic Places. Included on that list is the Amite County Courthouse of Liberty. Built in 1839, it is the oldest courthouse in Mississippi and still operates today. The 900 residents of Liberty are proud of their history and celebrate it every May, during their Heritage Days Festival. Today Liberty is home to the Air Cruisers Manufacturing Plant. This plant produces various products for the aviation industry such as life vests, life rafts, and evacuation slides.
