Collins, MS is centrally located at the intersection of Hwy 84 and 49 in South Mississippi. The town originally known as the Williamsburg Depot in 1899 quickly changed the name to Collins, because the name was too long and covering up and also voiding the postage stamps.  The postal system came up with “Bad” and the residents quickly rejected and chose Collins in honor of Fred W. Collins, the U.S. Marshal for the Southern District of Mississippi. In 1906 Collins became the county seat with a new county courthouse and where the first court place was held in 1908. Lumber was the boom for the economy until it was exhausted, then the Plantation Pipeline came and ran from Baton Rouge to the east coast through Collins, it became the distribution center for the Middle Mississippi. Collins’ has natives that made it big such as Gerald McRaney, Correll Buckhaulter and Randolph Keys. Collins has marched on with its plan to grow the city such has the Veterans Home and the Paradise Water Park.  While you are travelling through stop by and enjoy a game of golf at the Okatoma Golf Club or a dip in the water at the Grand Paradise Water Park or catch the Okatoma Festival down town in May. You will be glad you did!
