Taylor is an unincorporated community in northeastern Marion County, Missouri, United States. Taylor is located at the northern junction of U.S. Routes 24 and 61, approximately five miles west of Quincy, Illinois, and eight miles north of Palmyra. The community is part of the Hannibal Micropolitan Statistical Area.
A post office called Taylor has been in operation since 1873. The community was named after Captain John Taylor, the proprietor of a local mill. His long residence in this area made him familiar to all of the older residents and his connection with the ferry and the West Quincy turnpike gave him a general acquaintance with nearly all of the people of northwestern Missouri and western Illinois. In 1848, Mr. Taylor obtained a charter for a ferry between West Quincy and Quincy, IL, expending fully $75,000 in putting it in operation. He also built the West Quincy turnpike in which he held half an interest at the time of his death, and he also retained the ferry business. From these two enterprises he amassed a large fortune.
