Founded in 1735, Ste. Genevieve is the oldest permanent European settlement in the State of Missouri and is an example of a perfect French Colonial village in the US. There are numerous buildings and homes on the National Historic Landmark list, but the oldest landmark still standing is the Louis Buldoc House, located at 198 Market Street. The original Buldoc House was built close to the river in 1770. When that house suffered from floods, it was dismantled and moved to its present-day location in Ste. Genevieve.

Situated on the west bank of the Mississippi River, Ste. Genevieve is no stranger to floods.
