Do you know where the mushroom capital of the world is? Would you believe that it's the quaint town of Richmond Missouri? It sits north of Kansas City in the heart of the Midwest in Ray County, with population of approximately 5,967 residents. The town is known for its annual mushroom festival which attracts visitors from all the surrounding towns. Richmond is the county seat of Ray county and it's courthouse sits in the middle of the business district with area businesses surrounding all four sides. Also situated in Richmond is the Farris Theatre. It was patterned after the Tabor Theater is Leadville Colorado. The theatre was originally owned and operated by Sam Dougherty. The Farris Theatre has since been fully restored by a local grant named, "Friends of the Farris." It operates to this day. Richmond is also home to the Ray County Fairgrounds and Museum. This three-story building houses 54 rooms and earned the County Home a place on the National Register for Historical Places. It's currently known as the Ray County Museum and displays an array of history. The Town has a nice golf course, Shirkey, which is frequented during the open season. It also has several parks including the: Charles Armour Park, Hamann Park, Maurice Roberts Park, Firehouse Park, Southview Park that holds the local swimming pool as well as Cevie Due Park that is home to the local Skate Park. Richmond has a lot to offer and sits in SERVPRO of Chillicothe/Cameron/Richmond territory so we are lucky enough to get to serve their residents daily.
