Hermann, Missouri, is a city in and the county seat of Gasconade County. It has been the county seat since 1842 and sits near the center of the Missouri Rhineland and south of the Missouri River. The city is the commercial center of the Hermann American Viticultural Area, whose seven wineries produce about one-third of the state's wine. Designated in 1983, it is one of the first federally recognized American Viticultural Areas.
