What Little Canadians Should Know About Water Damage Restoration

Home to a little over 10,000 residents, Little Canada is an outer suburb of the Minneapolis-Saint Paul metropolitan area in Minnesota. The city originated as a settlement in the 1850s when French Canadian settler, Benjamin Gervais sought to claim land to build an independent grist mill. This mill was later converted into a park that is considered the birthplace of Little Canada. The city was established as a township in 1858 called New Canada. Almost a century later, it was incorporated as the village by its present name.

The Great North Below the Border

The city’s ties to Canada can be seen most notably in its symbol which features the initials “LC” on a white fleur-de-list superimposed over a red maple leaf, referring to Canada’s distinctive flag. One of Little Canada’s biggest events each year is the Canadian Days Festival. This late summer festival is a joint celebration with its sister city, Thunder Bay, Ontario. Events include a carnival, a parade and a 5k run with food and fun. Besides the festival, Little Canada offers several outdoor parks and wildlife areas for locals to enjoy fresh air all year.
