Canton, or officially the Charter Township of Canton, is located in Wayne County Michigan. Canton is the second most-populated township in Michigan and is located approximately 40 miles west of Detroit and 30 miles north of Ann Arbor.
Canton began its history as Sheldon Corners in 1825. Today not much is left of Sheldon Corners except the completely restored Sheldon Corners School, which is listed on the Michigan State historic site. Canton, which was named after a city in China in 1834, is a thriving community of over 98,000 residents.
