Adelphi Cleanup and Restoration

The Adelphi community was established in 1796 and takes its name from the historic Adelphi Mill. The community is located along the Northwest Branch of the Anacostia River in Prince George's county. The mill is not currently available for visitors or reservations due to structural issues. Adelphi remained relatively undeveloped until after World War II. In order to distinguish it from the other neighboring communities the growing subdivisions banded together in the mid-1950s and adopted the name Adelphi. They felt this was important to the preservation of the historic mill. The Adelphi pool was a community focal point that started in the 1950s. It is a private pool in the Adelphi neighborhood. Use of the Adelphi Pool requires paid membership. There are about 16,000 people living in Adelphi.
