History of Seekonk

Seekonk is a city located in Bristol County, Massachusetts. The population of Seekonk today is 39,000. Seekonk's weather is very warm and temperate all year round. Temperatures can get extremely high during the long hot summers and winters are much cooler than the rest of the country. Seekonk is famous for its proximity to Providence, Rhode Island and Barrington and Cumberland. The weather in Seekonk is cool, with an average temperature of 59 degrees F. Over time, Seekonk has grown into one of the most prosperous towns in America today and is known for its commercial enterprises as well as being close to many other urban areas within Plymouth County.

The history of Seekonk, Massachusetts began when English settlers arrived in 1633. During this time a few families lived near the mouth of the river. As more settlers arrived and knowledge about the area grew, many began settling what is now known as Seekonk. It was not before another century had passed that Seekonk was officially recognized as a town. By 1646, settlers had arrived from Massachusetts Bay Colony and joined forces with those they had come with to form what is now known as Seekonk. Because Seekonk experienced growth first as a fishing village and then as a ship building port by sea trade with Europe and Asia, it became very wealthy.
