Hazel is a charming small city located in Calloway County in far western Kentucky, just a few miles north of the Kentucky–Tennessee state line. Positioned along U.S. Highway 641, Hazel is approximately 15 miles southwest of Murray and less than 20 miles from Paris, Tennessee. According to the 2020 U.S. Census, Hazel has a population of approximately 380 residents. Although small in size, the city has earned a reputation as one of western Kentucky's most unique shopping destinations while maintaining its welcoming small-town character.

Founded in the late 1800s, Hazel developed as an agricultural community serving local farms throughout Calloway County. Over time, the city became well known for its collection of antique stores, specialty shops, and locally owned boutiques, drawing visitors from Kentucky, Tennessee, and neighboring states. The historic downtown district features beautifully preserved buildings that reflect the community's rich heritage while housing a variety of unique businesses, restaurants, and gift shops.

Hazel is perhaps best known for the annual Hazel Day Festival, held each October. This popular event attracts thousands of visitors with arts and crafts vendors, live entertainment, classic cars, local food, and family-friendly activities. The festival celebrates the city's history and small-town hospitality while providing a boost to local businesses and tourism. Throughout the year, shoppers also visit Hazel to browse its antique malls, home décor stores, and specialty retailers.

Residents enjoy a peaceful rural lifestyle while benefiting from convenient access to larger communities. Murray offers healthcare, higher education through Murray State University, shopping, and employment opportunities just a short drive away. Students in Hazel are served by the Calloway County School District, which is recognized for its academic excellence and strong extracurricular programs.

Outdoor recreation is another major advantage of living in Hazel. Kentucky Lake, Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area, and several state parks are all within easy driving distance, offering boating, fishing, hiking, camping, wildlife viewing, and numerous other outdoor activities throughout the year. The area's scenic farmland and rolling countryside further add to Hazel's appeal.

Today, Hazel continues to combine historic charm, thriving local businesses, and a strong sense of community. Whether visiting for its famous antique shopping, attending the Hazel Day Festival, or simply enjoying the relaxed pace of western Kentucky life, Hazel offers residents and visitors a welcoming atmosphere that reflects the best of small-town Kentucky.

Seems like people are always asking for recommendations for home repairs so wanted to pass along our experience with SERVPRO of Henry, Benton, Humphreys, and Hickman Counties SERVPRO Roofing. We highly recommend them! I had no idea they did siding and these type of repairs so was glad when Adam Marshall Jackson reached out when I was looking for someone to do the job. They were reasonably priced, great communication and did a great job! Keep them in mind for any repairs you might need!
