Dawson Springs is a historic city located in Hopkins and Caldwell counties in western Kentucky. Positioned along U.S. Highway 62 and near Interstate 69, the city is approximately 25 miles south of Madisonville and 40 miles northwest of Hopkinsville. According to the 2020 U.S. Census, Dawson Springs had a population of 2,452, making it one of the larger communities in the Pennyrile region.

Originally known as Tradewater Bend and later Dawson City, the community became famous in the late 1800s after the discovery of mineral-rich waters believed to have therapeutic properties. The town officially adopted the name Dawson Springs in 1898 to reflect its reputation as a health resort. During its peak, the city welcomed more than 50,000 visitors annually, with luxury hotels, bathhouses, and boarding houses attracting guests from Kentucky, Illinois, Tennessee, and beyond. Even the Pittsburgh Pirates held spring training in Dawson Springs during the early 1900s before moving to Florida.

Today, Dawson Springs blends its rich history with outdoor recreation. The city serves as the gateway to Pennyrile Forest State Resort Park and Pennyrile State Forest, offering hiking, fishing, camping, mountain biking, horseback riding, and scenic overlooks. Dawson Springs was also recognized as Kentucky's first official Trail Town, thanks to its extensive trail systems and commitment to outdoor tourism.

Education is provided by the Dawson Springs Independent School District, one of Kentucky's few remaining independent K–12 school systems. The district has long been a source of community pride and is one of the city's largest employers. Residents also enjoy a local public library, parks, community events, and a revitalized downtown that celebrates the city's heritage while supporting local businesses.

Dawson Springs faced one of the greatest challenges in its history on December 10, 2021, when a devastating EF4 tornado struck the community. The storm caused widespread destruction, claimed numerous lives, and damaged or destroyed much of the city's homes, businesses, and public buildings. In the years since, residents, volunteers, businesses, and organizations from across the country have worked together to rebuild the community. Reconstruction efforts continue to strengthen Dawson Springs while preserving the resilient spirit for which the town has become known.

Today, Dawson Springs remains a welcoming western Kentucky community that combines small-town charm with a rich historical legacy, abundant outdoor recreation, and a strong sense of resilience. Whether visitors come to explore the area's forests and trails, learn about its famous mineral springs, or experience its friendly atmosphere, Dawson Springs continues to be a unique destination in the Bluegrass State

Seems like people are always asking for recommendations for home repairs so wanted to pass along our experience with SERVPRO of Henry, Benton, Humphreys, and Hickman Counties SERVPRO Roofing. We highly recommend them! I had no idea they did siding and these type of repairs so was glad when Adam Marshall Jackson reached out when I was looking for someone to do the job. They were reasonably priced, great communication and did a great job! Keep them in mind for any repairs you might need!
