Cerulean is a small unincorporated community and census-designated place located primarily in Trigg County, with a small portion extending into Christian County, in western Kentucky. Situated along Kentucky Routes 124 and 126, the community is about 10 miles northeast of Cadiz and is part of the Clarksville, Tennessee–Kentucky Metropolitan Statistical Area. According to the 2020 U.S. Census, Cerulean had a population of 303 residents, making it a quiet rural community with a rich history and scenic surroundings.

Cerulean's history dates back to around 1790, when early settlers were drawn to the area's natural mineral springs. Originally known as Cerulean Springs, the community was named for the striking blue color of its spring water. Local tradition says the water's unique color changed following the New Madrid earthquakes of 1811–1812, giving the springs their distinctive cerulean-blue appearance. The town was incorporated in 1822 as Cerulean Springs before shortening its name to Cerulean in 1894.

During the 19th century, Cerulean became famous as a health resort destination. The Cerulean Springs Hotel, which opened in 1817, attracted visitors from across Kentucky and neighboring states who believed the mineral waters offered healing properties. As transportation improved and travel habits changed, the resort declined during the early 1900s. The historic hotel was destroyed by fire in 1925, and much of the town itself suffered another devastating fire in 1971. A limestone quarry also operated near Cerulean from 1895 until 1953, when it eventually flooded.

Today, Cerulean is known for its peaceful rural lifestyle, rolling farmland, and proximity to outdoor recreation. Residents are only a short drive from Lake Barkley, Kentucky Lake, and the Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area, offering excellent fishing, boating, camping, hiking, and wildlife viewing opportunities. Most local students attend Trigg County Public Schools, while those living in the Christian County portion attend schools in Hopkinsville.

Although small, Cerulean remains an important part of western Kentucky's heritage. Its unique history, famous mineral springs, and beautiful countryside continue to make it a memorable destination for history enthusiasts, outdoor lovers, and those seeking the charm of rural Kentucky.

Seems like people are always asking for recommendations for home repairs so wanted to pass along our experience with SERVPRO of Henry, Benton, Humphreys, and Hickman Counties SERVPRO Roofing. We highly recommend them! I had no idea they did siding and these type of repairs so was glad when Adam Marshall Jackson reached out when I was looking for someone to do the job. They were reasonably priced, great communication and did a great job! Keep them in mind for any repairs you might need!
