Alexis, IL is a residential community located in both Mercer and Warren counties. Because of its unique positioning between these counties, it was once awarded a Guinness World Record for being located in two counties and 4 townships. Alexis, IL is home to Alexis Fire Equipment company which remains as one of the area’s top employers.

In the 1880’s and 1890’s, Col. Robert Holloway raised and bred Clydesdales which helped to popularize the breed in the United States. One night, thieves went to Alexis and stole around 100 of Halloway’s prized Clydesdales. Residents from every corner of Alexis proceeded to meet the thieves at the tracks that they were travelling on and halted their car, saving every horse from being stolen. Today, Alexis is still known as the American Home of the Clydesdale horse breed.
