Atco a quaint unincorporated community on the northwestern side of Cartersville in southern Bartow County, Georgia, boasts a rich history intertwined with the American textile industry. This area is a hub of recreational activity, featuring numerous baseball and soccer complexes along Sugar Valley and Cassville Roads, making it a sought-after location for subdivisions.

The story of Atco began in 1903 when Edward McClain of a Textile Company purchased 600 acres north of Cartersville to build a textile plant dedicated to manufacturing horse collars. By 1904, the plant was up and running, and the company had also constructed about 40 homes for its workers, giving rise to the community's name, Atco.

A post office was established in 1907, operating until 1965. With the decline of the horse collar business due to the advent of automobiles, the ATCO Mill diversified its production before being acquired by Goodyear in 1929. Under Goodyear, the mill shifted to producing tire fabric products and expanded the village significantly, adding hundreds of homes and a school, while renaming the streets.

The mill's employees were part of the widespread textile industry strikes in 1934. In 1957, Cartersville annexed Atco, and Goodyear began selling off its homes. The community saw significant changes when Atco's school closed in 1963, and the Atco Mill ceased operations in 2003, laying off its remaining 319 employees. The plant was largely demolished between 2009 and 2010. Despite these changes, the Atco Mill’s historical significance was recognized in 2005 when it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Today, Atco stands as a testament to the dynamic history of the American textile industry and its enduring impact on the community.

The Cartersville Sports Complex, Cartersville Baseball Complex, Hicks Park (Cartersville Little League), Oak Hill Cemetery and Pettit Creek Farms are all located in the Atco area.

Xavier was the supervising technician for this project. He was polite, professional, non stop working to get the job done as efficiently as possible. He also explained everything to me and answered my questions easily and made me feel comfortable about what they were doing and what the end result would be. I had water damage from a refrigerator leak that damaged flooring and cabinets and also leaked into ceiling tiles in the basement.
