Allatoona, Ga is approximately six mile southeast of Cartersville and is considered an unincorporated community of Bartow County. Originally the area was a small mining community that was eventually partially flooded in 1949 when a dam was built on the Etowah River to create Allatoona Lake and to generate electrical power for the surrounding area. Other purposes the lake was created include flood control, water quality/supply, recreation, fish and wildlife management.
There are 25 parks, 10 campgrounds and 8 marinas along the shores of Lake Allatoona which make for a great place for recreational activities like hunting, fishing, picnics, camping, boating, and hiking. With some of the most breathtaking views and beautiful landscapes, it is no wonder that over six million visitors patronize Lake Allatoona every year. The visitors bring an economic boost to the area to the toon of over 186 million dollars annually within a thirty mile radius helping the economic development of the surrounding communities.
